Admiral Lord Nelson School
Client: Admiral Lord Nelson School
Contractor: Facade Fix Principal Contractor
Contract Value: £1.4m
Project Type: Major Refurbishment
The Admiral Lord Nelson School was very dated and the curtain walling to the classrooms needed an urgent upgrade from a non thermally broken, steel installation which was leaking badly. The design of the doors and windows was resulting in injuries to staff and students so the challenge was to replace 1,000 SqM of curtain walling in one holiday period of just 6 weeks – including making good, electronic actuators and bespoke parts.
Cost was essential for the school who had obtained the exact funding required, so we took on a lump sum project and the principal contractor role to offer a zero risk solution and total coordination of the other trades. We were able to upgrade the U-Value, introduce bright fresh colours and improve accessibility throughout. Bespoke door furniture designed by us prevent doors swinging in the wind and subsequent injuries. Finger traps were installed. Not only were we within budget, we also installed brand new sliding main entrance doors, new windows and new matwells to every entrance as a corporate donation to the school.
“Façade Fix were one of several contractors that carried out works for us over the 2018 summer holidays. There’s was one of the biggest projects and they needed the least input and management of all of our education sector works. It really was the Ronseal thing – they did everything they said they would, and about £35,000 of additional free works”
